Dear KijangMas,

Let me quote something you've said in your article,

Yes, KijangMas, you may know a few bad apples out there that shamelessly bribes every law enforcers they met. The issue of uproar of the ban "Allah" among East Malaysians (and also West Malaysians) are clear.

My personal view on the above matter, it is fair for Muslim community to show their concern in the usage of the word "Allah". But pre-emptive the ban (by our beloved Ministry) without going through proper channel (by the Law, and hence the court) is just as improper as the bribery of law enforcer.

Unless, one deem bending the Law and perform a mockery on our nation's beloved Constitution for this reason is justified.

Though I, a Christian, being labelled as a Language retard, zealots and other cynical labels you (KijangMas) has smacked on my and my beloved friends' forehead - I've only one request for you (KijangMas).

I believe you have a better way to present your points. You might went through a rough day, you might need a good rest - but it does not mean you have a right in insulting us who are sincerely living our life as a loyal citizen of Malaysia - despite of our differences in our belief.

Yes, you are partially right about some of us who have lost our confidence in our judiciary system. However, I believe my fellow Malaysians who too have shown their similar distress on this issue through the "Walk of Justice" - where I strongly believe it is more than Christians who participated in that walk.

Yes, you may say the "language retard", "bribery", "judiciary", "bumiputra" and few more things you've mentioned are just a tip of an iceberg - you are raising an issue that supercedes all the aforementioned. Then may I request, that you may present your point straightforward?

I would appreciate if you can make your point without making any assumption and generalization.

Quote Garden: You really need to be consistent, if you wanna use Malay as the language for the bible, then please stick to the use of "Tuhan" because in Malay, Tuhan means God. Purely for academic reasoning, do you agree that once a foreign word is added into a language - that the word itself is part of that language?

For example, "Computer" in English is also known as "Komputer" in Bahasa Melayu. I would say that "Komputer" is orignated from English, but "Komputer" itself is still a Bahasa Melayu word.

Historically speaking, Bahasa Melayu has its roots and nature with massive infusion of Arabic, Persian and Hindi or Sanskrit vocabularies.

Of course, even English Language itself adapted many foreign vocabularies such as Norman French, Latin and even Greek.

We've been using the English word "me" as we converse daily in English. I'm quite sure no one would actually take the trouble to find out that the English word "me" actually is taken from the word "me" in Latin.

Being academically right, I would not claim I'm using a Latin in my daily conversation. Though I would admit that English word I used originated from Latin.

Coming back, I understand clearly that the word "Allah" in Bahasa Melayu is originated from Arabic Language.

However, I would have a bit of reservation in avoiding using the word "me" or "Allah" (in this case) based on your reasoning to Keith.

I understand the concern of Muslim Community of any usage of the word "Allah" in other religion/belief.

But being consistent, I would find it difficult to accept the rational of the banning of the word "Allah" because of not using Arabic word in Bahasa Melayu.

Side talk a bit, as mentioned in my previous comment to KijangMas, I also find it difficult to comprehend if we resort to bypass proper (legal) channel in the banning decision - in upholding our beloved Rukun Negara, especially on "Keluhuran Perlembagaan" - which (ironically ) suggested by William Lim in his last paragraph of sharing.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Some 45,000 workers in the manufacturing sector may temporarily be out of job soon with most factories in the country to cease operations for the Chinese New Year celebration.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam said this would happen because the factories would shut down operations for two or three weeks and the workers were asked to take leave, either on paid or unpaid leave, depending on their respective employers.

"This (shut down) is because of a drop in demand for their products and because of that they (factories) have to temporarily terminate their workers," he told reporters after opening the Agro Explosion 2009 Seminar & Workshop, here today.

He said that as of Jan 12, 14,000 workers from various sectors lost their jobs because of the world economic slowdown, but that there were some 15,000 job vacancies in various sectors registered at the ministry.

On the protest by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) and the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) to the government's plan to have a pension scheme for private sector employees through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Dr. Subramaniam said it happened due to a misunderstanding.

"Actually, the ministry is thinking about the senior citizens who can no longer work and fend for themselves having used up their EPF money. We need a system to help this group of people," he added.

He said the government was studying the scheme and would gather feedback from various quarters before deciding the matter.

Don't you think media has been playing a very low key position and has been giving a "so-so" feel on the upcoming Kuala Terengganu By-Election?

I'm against Hudud and the idea of Malaysia as an Islamic nation. I find it difficult to comprehend such ideas. However, I am too find it difficult to comprehend this old man from PAS who carried a DAP flag and wear a DAP shirt while shouting "hancurkan BN". I'm deeply touched.

Rocky Bru provided some of Dr. Mahathir's speech on Bangsa Malaysia.

Though many left comments in agreement with Dr. Mahathir, I beg to differ.

After March 8, we are more racial than ever. Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has told those who say the last General Election was a vote to reject race-based parties and politics to stop deluding themselves. "We have become more racial than ever since the last General Election. We debate about race every day, more than before," he said. In an off-the-cuff lecture on Bangsa Malaysia in Putrajaya this morning, he said if the outcome of the March general election was a rejection of racial politics, there would be less talk about race today. Instead, race has become a central issue since March. That election has stimulated discussion about little else other than race.

I beg to differ, discussing racial issues and discriminating or systematically depriving certain races are two different thing. I still see certain party keep raising petty issues such as placing multi-lingual signboards while that party itself did similar things, in Arabic language. No offense to foreign "Visit Malaysia" Arabs, but hey, you did offended locals "Loyal Citizens" such as Chinese and Indians.

"And if PAS is not a race-based party, then I am not Mahathir Bin Mohamad," he said.
DAP not a race-based party? "Apart from some window-dressing, it's still the old DAP".
And PKR? "It is said to be Islamic, it's also pro-Hindraf, and pro-Chinese educationists. But that's because there is this man with many faces who leads the party. After him, who will lead the PKR? If it is led by a non-Malay, it will not have the support of the Malays."

Emm.... Mamak does qualify to join PAS... same applies to those loyal non-muslim supporters in their PAS Supporter Clubs. Wait a minute, do you mean only Malays can be Muslim? That's absurd to my knowledge.

Bangsa Malaysia without Bahasa Malaysia? Dr M also chided those who clamour for a Bangsa Malaysia but are unwilling to give due regards to the national language. These people, he said, should emulate Obama and children of migrant races in the US, Switzerland and Australia.

"Obama, who must be in some ways a descendant of a slave, is today US President. The blacks had tribes in Africa but after years in the US they all speak English. English is their mothertongue. The speak English at work, at school and at home. The same as the migrant Jews. They became naturalised American citizens. But they accpet that as Americans they must speak English."

I beg to differ, The States does not have an official language. In fact, Spanish language is the second-most common language, spoken by almost 30 million people (or 13% of the population) in 2005. [1] In fact, states such as Hawaii [2] and Louisiana [3] does have Hawaiian and French along with English as their official language.

In contrast of what Dr. M said, in 2000, the census bureau printed the standard census questionnaires in six languages: English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese (in traditional characters), Vietnamese, and Tagalog.

Though Seattle (not sleepless though) [1] did own a trash can with multilingual labels, I didn't see anyone carrying banners walking around crying outloud for injustice like mad dog.

I'm not Malay Malaysian. Dr M said Bangsa Malaysia exists but mostly among Malaysians abroad, he said. "I've met many Malaysians overseas. Those who approached me introduced themselves as Malaysians, not Chinese Malaysians or Indian Malaysians or Malay Malaysians. Just Malaysians.

"But back home here, they want to go to different schools."

I personally introduce myself as Malaysians. Full Stop. I'm not sure about your "friends" though. Vincent Tan, Eusoffe Chin, Lingam, etc.

Sekolah Wawasan. For a Bangsa Malaysia to be born, the current race-based schooling system must go. "This is the only country where we have different streams of schools: Chinese, Tamil and National schools. The Chinese educationists think their kids should not get any close to the kids from the national schools. Or they might turn into Chinese Mat rempits."

The idea of Sekolah Wawasan was to put the 3 schools in one campus. This will compel the children of different races to meet and interact with each other. Morning assembly would be held together. The pupils will be in one assembly. When they play, they'll play together. Not Chinese school vs National school.

"I must admit the Sekolah Wawasan concept did not get support, especially from the Chinese educationist groups. They don't want to have anything to do with the Malays."

True, we might be the only country with "streamlined" schools. Other countries just have schools with different language as medium of instruction, without any discrimination.

The term "Lawatan Sambil Belajar" is commonly used during my secondary school days, shamefully speaking, I managed to get through the school authority to approve Computer Society in organizing a trip to Genting in the name of "Lawatan Sambil Belajar". For sure, we learn nothing else than it is possible to have a 3D2N trip to Genting by just paying RM60 per pax :)

The reason hu-ha in Malaysia seems to reflect this scenario, whereby a "generous" MP decided to sponsor all BN backbenchers to an oversea study trip on agriculture. Interesting it seems, doesn't it ;)
